TabbedDescription & RationaleWilliam Fierman, professor of Central Eurasian Studies at Indiana University, amassed a large collection of newspapers and periodicals from the Central Asian States of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan during the course of his career. He is willing to donate the runs of titles for preservation and academic use. This collection contains more than 60 newspaper titles from Kazakhstan, 35 from Uzbekistan, and additional titles from Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. Reasons for consideration: The collection is significant for its scope (generally, covering 1981-present) as well as uniqueness. Many of the titles are not found in OCLC or other library catalogs, and most titles have not been microfilmed by LC, East View, or other suppliers. This proposal will complete the unfilmed holdings from this collection.
