Central Asian Newspapers from the University of Washington
Ilse Cirtautas, a retired professor specializing in Central Asian languages and retired professor, contributed her large collection of Central Asian materials to the University of Washington Libraries upon her death. After sorting and de-duping, about 2750 newspaper issues remain that need preservation. Most of the newspapers were published between 1968 and 2000, with greater concentrations in the 1970s and early 1990s. The remaining issues do not duplicate the issues SEEMP microfilmed from the similar collection William Fierman donated to Indiana University, Bloomington. Microfilming of a daily French-language Saudi-owned Moroccan newspaper. It was founded on 1 November 1971, as a replacement of pro-colonial daily le Petit Marocain, whose publisher Mas Presse was seized and given to the cousin of Hassan II and his minister of communication Moulay Hafid Alaoui.
