Central Asian Newspapers from the University of Washington

Ilse Cirtautas, a retired professor specializing in Central Asian languages and retired professor, contributed her large collection of Central Asian materials to the University of Washington Libraries upon her death.  After sorting and de-duping, about 2750 newspaper issues remain that need preservation.  Most of the newspapers were published between 1968 and 2000, with greater concentrations in the 1970s and early 1990s.  The remaining issues do not duplicate the issues SEEMP microfilmed from the similar collection William Fierman donated to Indiana University, Bloomington.  Like Prof. Fierman, Prof. Cirtautas’ collection includes Uzbek and Kazakh...

Global Press Archive Charter Collection 4 - Imperial Russian Newspapers

CRL–Global Press Archive Charter Alliance : Open Access Collection 4: Imperial Russian Newspapers

This collection has been approved by the GPA Advisory Committee under the CRL/East View GPA Charter Alliance, funded and supported by CRL members and participating non-member institutions. The proposed collection would cover no less than 500,000 pages of newspapers spanning the 18th, 19th and early-20th centuries, up to the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.

South Slavic Publications

Periodicals published in Bosnia and Hercegovina in the 25 years during and following hostilities in the countries once comprising Yugoslavia (1991-2016). Formats vary in size, frequency, place of publication and language and script of text. Included are approximately 55 titles, for the most part in Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian. It includes 5,340 issues, and an estimated total of 253,670 pages (126,835 exposures). The subject of this collection is politics, economics, social issues and culture of the affected population in regions of former Yugoslavia. Coverage is primarily about and/or published in BiH. The languages are SCB and English.

Ujedinjeno srpstvo = United Serbians

This project would digitize CRL’s holdings for Ujedinjeno srpstvo = United Serbians for the years 1917 – 1922 and make them openly accessible on CRL's platform. It was a Serbian language periodical that was published in Chicago, Illinois from 1906-1948, but only the holdings from 1917-1922 are available at this time for digitization.

GPA CRL Alliance Phase 2 Collection: Ukrainian Local and Independent Newspapers 

This collection is endorsed by the GPA CRL Alliance Advisory Committee for Phase 2. It is funded and supported by CRL and member institutions. The size of the collection is roughly 800,000 to 1,100,000 pages published between (1989-2002).

Vokrug Svieta digital archive (1861-2021)

Vokrug svi︠e︡ta /Vokrug Sveta is a Russian geography journal that began publishing in 1861. It is one of the longest-running Russian journals that was published initially from December of 1861 through 1917. It was not published from 1869-1884, 1918-1926, and during the years of WWII. This proposal envisions digitization of a complete run of the journal, as confirmed by Mike Peters of East View.
