Global Press Archive Charter Collection 4 - Imperial Russian Newspapers

CRL–Global Press Archive Charter Alliance : Open Access Collection 4: Imperial Russian Newspapers

This collection has been approved by the GPA Advisory Committee under the CRL/East View GPA Charter Alliance, funded and supported by CRL members and participating non-member institutions. The proposed collection would cover no less than 500,000 pages of newspapers spanning the 18th, 19th and early-20th centuries, up to the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.

This project would microfilm holdings of H-Metro collected by the Library of Congress Field Office in Nairobi, Kenya.  The holdings include September 2009 - July 2015 (approximately 27,000 page).

The project continues the work of my proposal from last year to digitize important materials from the Bob Jones collection on Indochina.  These materials include some of the larger runs of serials as well as a selection of short runs of Saigon newspapers from the 1960s.

Lesotho Newspapers, primarily from Yale and Northwestern

In this project, Yale University Library and Northwestern University Library propose to arrange for the microfilming through CAMP of an estimated 13,838 pages of Lesotho newspaper titles from 1990 to 2018.  The titles include The African, Family Mirror, Her Heroes 'n Heroines, Informative, Lesotho Monitor, Maddhouse Weekly, Mohlanka, Moitseki, Moqolotsi, Motjoli's Review, Nonyana, Sechaba, Shoeshoe, Spectator, Sunday Express, Varsity Breeze, Voice of Free Democrats, Watchdog, and Weekly Mail.

Liberty

Liberty was a national English-language daily (except Sunday) published in Bangkok in September 1945 by Manit Vasuvat who was Chair of the Sri Krung Publishing Company. It was a well-written, conservative paper designed for international readers. The paper reflected the perspectives of British-educated Thais in both domestic and foreign news. It ceased in 1956.

Memory and Cultural Identities: The Newspapers and Historical Documents of Southern Patagonia, Part II

In Southern Patagonia local media, especially newspapers, played a fundamental role in the formation of regional identity. In the early twentieth century the growth of cattle ranching in the south of the country fostered the conditions needed for the growth of an extensive publishing industry particularly in newspapers and periodicals. Local elites founded numerous newspaper outlets whose primary purpose was to defend local interests but also with the intent to define regional identity. Many publications were devoted to the struggle between liberal and conservative ideologies, but ultimately the success of these enterprises depended on how well they were able to represent the interests and needs of the local elite. Neue Zürcher Zeitung

This project would digitize the Center for Research Libraries’ holdings of a German language newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung, which was published in Zurich, Switzerland.   

The holdings to be included in this digitization project are from 1882-1925, with some gaps.  This material would then be openly accessible through CRL’s online platform.

New-Yorker Staats-Zeitung

This project would digitize the Center for Research Libraries’ holdings of a German language newspaper New-Yorker Staats-Zeitung, which was a series of related titles published in New York, NY from the 1830s until at least 1991.

Reeling in the French Antilles: digitizing newspapers from Martinique and Guadeloupe, 1852 to 1929

The George A. Smathers Libraries at the University of Florida (UF) requests [see Cost Summary] to support reel preparation activities and vended digitization costs related to digitizing 31,200 pages of UF microfilm holdings of French-language newspapers published in Martinique and Guadeloupe between 1852 and 1929. Titles selected for digitization include Le Propagateur (Saint Pierre, Martinique) and Journal officiel de la Guadeloupe (Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe). Duplicates of archival master microfilm from UF will be used to complete the digitization. Additionally, these duplicates will be added to the UF Latin American & Caribbean Collection Reading Room as access/use copies as an additional access point. Digital Preservation of Satya Samācāra Sāptāhika

The project aims to digitize the Nepali-language periodical titled "Satya Samācāra Sāptāhika" (Weekly). A list of volumes and issues along with brief descriptions of the proposed title is appended. The digital copy will be prepared from the original periodicals. Each digital copy will be sent to SAMP and kept at Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya (MPP). (This is a continuation of a project to digitize Nepali newspapers and periodicals collected and filmed by the MPP under the supervision of LC consultants.)

This project would digitize CRL’s holdings for Ujedinjeno srpstvo = United Serbians for the years 1917 – 1922 and make them openly accessible on CRL's platform. It was a Serbian language periodical that was published in Chicago, Illinois from 1906-1948, but only the holdings from 1917-1922 are available at this time for digitization.
