Burmese newspaper collection Post Feb 2021

I am requesting the digitization of a collection of miscellaneous newspapers that a former graduate student living in Yangon was able to collect for the University of Washington, before he was obliged to leave several months after the February 2021 military coup.

Current Southeast Asia Newspapers

Except for Cornell and LC, very few members of SEAM subscribe to newspapers from Southeast Asia and rely mostly on Press Display, Factiva, etc or going directly to the websites of these titles.  This leaves US scholars without a basic historical record from the region.  This proposal will ease our budget, preserve and allow researchers to access newspapers.

 

This two year experiment whereby SEAM will pay and subscribe to newspaper titles from Southeast Asia through the Library of Congress Jakarta that will ship collated issues to CRL for microfilming using SEAM workflow.  All microfilmed copies can be accessed through CRL.

General statement and excerpt of speech of party leaders of National League for Democracy Party of Myanmar 1997-2003

Sets of papers speeches and statement from NLD in Burma during important period of 1990s democracy movement. Numerous stapled reports some of which are titled. Some are undated, but from mid 2000’s.

Myanma Timber Enterprise Documents

Sets of papers unbound some staples. Most one-sided paper; some two; estimates made for scans. 2013 Valuable insight into late 1990s timber industry in Myanmar.  

11 paper stapled paper reports (bound with tape) that are planning documents (400 pages) Tender reports (550 pages): These will provide information on companies working with government for timber harvests.
