Reasons for consideration:
The study of modern architecture and design is a growing trend in History that is only now growing in relation to South Asia. After decades of Western studies on ancient and Mughal architecture, this trend toward the study of modern and secular structures is a welcome new addition. Design, a magazine published since the 1950s, is one of only a handful of serial publications on the topic produced during this early period.
While some later issues of Design are more widely held, these earliest issues appear to be relatively scarce. CRL does have holdings of the later volumes, but is missing the first twelve and has a couple of small gaps. The proposal would round out and complete CRL’s run of Design, making the full run accessible to CRL members.
