Reasons for consideration:
Gabon is a country on the west coast of Central Africa with 885km long coastline at the Atlantic Ocean and over 80% forest cover inland. It is known for its national parks that protect a spectacular array of tropical wildlife and some of the most majestic scenery in the world. It is also rich in natural resources (oil, wood, iron ore, and manganese). In 1990’s Gabon made major changes to its political system such as adopting a new constitution and allowing multiparty elections.
This unique collection of Gabon newspapers covers varied subjects but mainly the political situation in the country in late 1990s and beyond. Almost all the titles in this collection are in bad state (yellowed and brittle) and have not been microfilmed before. They are dire need of filming.
