Pedagogy and scribal culture in pre-colonial Bengal: Digitization of 2500 manuscripts from Nabadwip Sadharan Granthagar

Nabadwip, a small town in the Nadia district of West Bengal (India), is said to have been the capital of the Sena kingdom of Bengal until the 13th century and was well into the 20th a preeminent center of Sanskrit learning. Traditionally held to be the birthplace of Chaitanya (circa 1486-1534), the founder of the Gaudiya Vaishnava movement, Nabadwip remains a very important pilgrimage center for Hindus across the world. Nabadwip’s reputation as a center of Sanskrit learning however was not dependent solely on the Gaudiya Vaishnava networks and in fact predated the birth of Chaitanya. Preserving Afro-Brazilian History: Abdias do Nascimento

This project continues the ongoing work, supported by CRL, of organizing and preparing the documents held in the IPEAFRO collection for microfilm and, in partnership with the National Library of Brazil, producing the microfilms. To date, IPEAFRO has delivered a total of 108 films (54 negative and 54 positive) to LAMP through the Library of Congress office at the U.S. Consulate in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil’s National Archive digitized part of the collection, and IPEAFRO has made digitized documents available to the public on its website.

Preserving Early Tamil Serials

This project aims to digitize three early Tamil serials namely, Kumari malar, Makaḷir cintaṉai and Pēcum paṭam. These serials focused on subjects such as literature, feminism and early Tamil movies respectively. Roja Muthiah Research Library (RMRL) has almost full run of these serials which are important source material for researchers.
